This type of fishing for the Coastal Dwelling Indigenous People was rather common.

Leaves off the Gum, (Eucalyptus)Trees was plentiful. These leaves would be stripped from the trees and thrown into a pond, "Billabong" or creek with branches placed across the narrow parts, to help trap the stunned fish. The very toxic oil from these leaves would temporarily "stun" the fish, thus making it easier to spear and or catch with our bare hands. This method of fishing, among the "Traditional

Tribes" is still practiced today.
